Sometimes companies decide to increase the number of shares that are outstanding by issuing more shares to current shareholders. This makes no difference in terms of the amount of money invested, but it does changes the quantity of titles and the unitary value of those titles.

SPLIT WITH IMAP

IMAP has an embebed functionality to split shares in both directions. As this operations only affects shares, the option will be available only in the shares movements section. As explained in the Data Management in IMAP guide, you will need to click on the correspondent button of the tools bar.

In the window that will pop up, you will need to fill up three parameters in order to complete the operation:

  • The share code, the product on which the split will be applied.
  • The ratio of the split, whole number indicating the proportion of titles being afected by the split.
  • The direction of the split, the operation of the split, that is to say, if the share titles are going to be multiplied or divided.

Once you have filled these parameters, you just need to click on the "Apply" button to proceed. Once the process has finished with the adjustment, you should check that the quantity of titles and the unitary price of the share have changed, and that the total investment, profit, returns and costs are the same.

NOTE
Have into account that this process will change permanently some share movements. We strongly encourage you to make a backup before executing a split, and check that the numbers are right once the process has been completed.
